How we handle your data — and why most of it never reaches us.

Last updated: March 2026

The short version: Your Tableau workbooks are parsed entirely in your browser. The XML, formulas, field names, and data source metadata in your .twb files never leave your device — except for the calculated field formulas you explicitly choose to send through an AI translation pass. We collect minimal anonymous usage data to understand how the product is being used.

What stays in your browser

The following data is processed locally in your browser and is never transmitted to our servers or any third party:

  • The contents of any .twb file you upload
  • Workbook XML, including calculated field formulas, parameter definitions, and data source metadata
  • Connection strings, server names, database names, and table names referenced in your workbook
  • Sheet names, dashboard names, and filter configurations
  • Field names, aliases, and internal Calculation_XXXX identifiers

All parsing, diffing, documentation extraction, and audit analysis runs in your browser using JavaScript. Nothing is uploaded to a server.

AI translation (Convert tool only)

The Convert tool includes an optional AI translation pass for complex calculated fields that cannot be translated by rule-based logic alone. If you use this feature:

  • Only the text of the calculated field formula is sent — not field names, data source names, or any other workbook metadata
  • Formulas are sent to the Anthropic API (Claude) for translation
  • We do not log or store formula content on our servers
  • Anthropic's data usage policies apply to any data sent through their API. See anthropic.com/privacy

The privacy scan step before translation explicitly shows you which data stays in your browser and which formulas will be sent for AI processing. You can proceed or cancel before any data is transmitted.

Analytics and usage data

We use PostHog to collect anonymous product usage events. This helps us understand which features are used, how often, and where people run into issues. The data we collect includes:

  • Which tool was used (Convert, Diff, Docs, Audit)
  • Feature interactions (e.g., export clicked, panel vs split view selected)
  • Aggregate counts (e.g., number of fields in a workbook, number of diffs found)
  • Browser type and approximate geographic region

We do not collect personally identifiable information through PostHog unless you voluntarily provide your email address (see below). Events are anonymous by default.

Email address

If you submit your email address through the "Stay in the loop" form on any page, we store it to send you product updates and announcements. We will not sell your email address or share it with third parties for marketing purposes. You can unsubscribe at any time using the link in any email we send.

Cookies

We use a single analytics cookie set by PostHog to track anonymous sessions across page loads. No advertising or tracking cookies are used. You can disable cookies in your browser settings at any time; the tools will continue to function without them.

Data retention

Anonymous analytics events are retained for 12 months. Email addresses submitted through signup forms are retained until you unsubscribe or request deletion. No workbook data is retained because none is transmitted to our servers.

Your rights

If you have submitted your email address and would like it removed, or if you have any questions about this privacy policy, contact us at justin@klardata.com.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. The "last updated" date at the top of this page reflects when the most recent change was made. Continued use of the site after an update constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
